The Vend of the Line side quest in Borderlands 4 takes Vault Hunters on a chaotic scavenger hunt across Kairos to uncover a legendary vending machine. Initiated in the Carcadia region, this quest revolves around tracking down specific color-coded item combinations to reveal pieces of a master clue. Completing every step allows players to earn high-tier weapons and unlock unique quest achievements.
Starting the Quest and Decoding the First Vending Machine
Players can unlock this mission upon reaching the Carcadia region after speaking with a reporter bot and a Vault Gatherer. The first objective requires examining the back of a glitched vending machine to figure out the required item transaction order. You must sell two green-tier items followed by two blue-tier items to force the machine to glitch and reveal the initial coordinate code.
Tracking down Additional Machine Codes across Kairos
As the mission progresses, players must venture to locations like Crumblehall and Dusty Dangler to track down remaining machines. Each location features distinct puzzles, such as navigating physical platforming arrows or turning off nearby jukeboxes to restore power. By inputting the correct item rarities in sequence at each stop, players assemble the complete set of master coordinates.
Reaching the Legendary Vending Machine
Following the finalized coordinates leads players to a final confrontation where the legendary vending machine is located. Before making a purchase, players should pay close attention to environmental clues regarding the required item transaction sequence. Selling three green-tier items before buying the discounted legendary item ensures that you trigger all secret rewards correctly.
Mission Rewards and Secret Endings
Finishing the Vend of the Line quest awards players a powerful legendary item as well as a special collectible photo. Returning this photo to Zane at Moxxi's bar unlocks an alternative dialogue sequence and grants the All Things Vend achievement. Because this quest is non-replayable, carefully following each step guarantees you will not miss out on exclusive trophies or loot.
